The Devil Hates Sunday

If something is going to happen to try to mar my sense of peace, it will happen on Sunday.  But I won't allow the devil to make himself the center of my attention by using people or situations to get at me.  Christ defeated sin and death from His Cross which we remember especially on this day of the week and ain't nothin' the devil can do about that.  It won't stop him from trying and the fact that he picks Sundays very clearly illustrates his jealousy and hatred for Our Lord and anyone who loves Him.

St. Therese called Sunday her little Heavens.  When she was still a little girl and her dear Pauline would put her to bed on Sunday evening, she would ask her: "Are the holy angels flying all around me?"

I will be calling on St. Michael, as I do every morning, to send some holy angels to fly around me.  I need them.

  1. It's funny you should mention St Michael, Joyce.
I have only recently found it very helpful to say his prayer whenever I'm stuck in an uncharitable thought pattern. It interrupts the flow somehow, and I'm quickly distracted and thinking of something else. (Or maybe that's just a symptom of advancing age)
Anyway, I'm convinced St Michael carries heavy artillery. Good luck to you today. It's a beautiful day and I hope a peaceful and happy one for you my friend.

    1. Great idea Julie, and excellent observation that St Michael carries "heavy artillery". I will have to remember that! The day got better, thanks to everyone's prayers. Thanks Julie

  2. Oh Joyce, I'm so sorry you are having a difficult day. It's so true..the devil hates Sundays. He also hates holy hours, retreats, etc. He's so obvious about it all. I too will call on St. Michael and the holy angels to protect you...and the Queen of angels, especially.

I have my Carmelite meeting today, and I'm surprised that I do not have some illness or a mega migraine. It's like clockwork on meeting OCDS meeting days and holy hour Tuesdays. I can bet if I get sick, it will fall on those days. I used to have unbearable migraines almost every Tuesday..to keep me from adoration.

Sad that so many don't believe in the devil. He's out there and hates us so much...and will do anything to keep us from God.

I know you will come out the better from whatever your trial is...because of your faith and love in and for God. Wishing you tons of Easter season blessings!! Love and prayers xoxo

    1. Thank you for your prayers Patricia and you are of course right - the evil one does his best to disrupt anything pleasing to God. Thank you for your prayers and your love, which I send to you as well.

    1. Richard they certainly are. One of the promises to those who faithfully pray the Chaplet to St. Michael is that one angel from each of the nine choirs will accompany us to the altar rail when we receive Holy Communion. I too often forget this. I pray for them to look after you as well my friend.
      God bless,

  4. Joyce, I just echo what the others have said..I keep Holy Water available during these times. St Theresa of Avila thought it a powerful defense against the enemy. It helps when I pray to keep it near....because as you know, he's always on the prowl.

    Thinking of you today.
    Love and Blessings +

    1. Caroline, thank you, another suggestion I should definitely make use of, except I think I would need a tank of holy water with a fire hose :)
Thank you for your love and prayers, they definitely sent the devil packing!

  5. Sunday does feel like a little heaven! Since reading her biography I've been relying on St Catherine of Siena as my go to saint. I shall ask her for prayers for you to have extra strength to deal with all the difficulties you've been facing. God be with you.

    1. Manny I haven't read her biography but I do have a book of letters St. Catherine wrote. She is one of the saints I pray to every morning after receiving Holy Communion. One of these days, perhaps before I return to work, I will get a chance to read more about her. I'm glad you have such a wonderful friend.
      Thanks for your prayers,
      Joyce

    2. You can sample a bit of her biography at my blog. I've done a series on the bio (written by Sigrid Unsted, a Catholic convert who won the Nobel prize in Literature), three blogs to date. Here's a link to the third blog:
      http://ashesfromburntroses.blogspot.com/2013/04/book-excerpt-catherine-of-siena-by.html

From there you can get the inks to the first two blogs. I intend to do one more blog on the bio. She was a remarkable woman. I think her bio might put the letters into context for you. What I really want to get is her book of prayers. I have it in my Amazon cart waiting for a good time to order it.
