Looking Ahead

The annual Advent Silent Retreat at the Philadelphia Carmelite Monastery will take place on Saturday, December 3rd. I haven't received the application yet but it should be forthcoming. Let me know if you're interested so I can forward one to you.  I don't know who the retreat master is but should also have that information shortly. Regardless of who the priest is, the fact remains that you get to give the entire day to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the beautiful Holy Spirit chapel.  The day begins with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 8AM and includes two convocations, breakfast and lunch, Adoration, Rosary, and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.  There is also ample opportunity to support the sisters by making a purchase in the Avila Bookstore and maybe even do some Christmas shopping for a fellow Catholic who would treasure a book or sacramental from the Carmel gift shop.

The utmost silence will be observed so that we can hear what Jesus wants to say to us as well as tell Him what is in our hearts.

  2. ...and hopefully no one will loudly snore, as did the gentleman at the five pm adoration hour today.

    Sigh.

  3. Theresa, I hope you'll be able to make one in the near future, although you at least get to visit there once a month with the Third Order, right?

Julie, you should think about joining us. I'll let everyone know when I have the application. No pressure but I think you'd love it.

  4. Oh, gosh, I sure WOULD love it.
The problem is that I'm the coordinator for the perpetual adoration chapel at our parish. We are notoriously short-handed during the period from Thanksgiving through New Years, as everyone and his brother suddenly needs a substitute.I'm pretty much an anchoress during that period, or at least my family thinks so.
Do they offer something like this during Lent?

  5. Julie, YES, it is offered at Lent as well, barring a problem with the organizers not being able to do it, which has only happened once. I'll be sure to let you know. How wonderful that you are so devoted to the Lord in the Eucharist. Let's pray that you get more adorers to keep Him company and give you a respite.
