Rats!

No, I'm not echoing Charlie Brown.  Rebecca is on a kick to get a pair of rats.  Supposedly, they're very sweet, affectionate and super smart.  I know two little canines who are not apt to go for this idea.  I'm still thinking about it.  At this age, I suppose I should be grateful we're talking rodents instead of boys!

  1. I knew a guy who had a cute rat for a pet. It sat in his pocket and would wander out now and again for a treat or to see what was going on. Of course it also had a cage but spent a lot of its time socializing. It was very clean.

  2. We've owned just about every pet you can think of, including rats.
My daughter's rats were very sweet. The key thing with them, and I cannot stress this enough, is to handle them a lot when they are young. Then you have affectionate little friends that like to sit on your shoulder. They are quite charming when they reach their little paws through the bars of their cage begging for a treat--very Oliver Twist.
    But their tails...
I could never get used to their tails. Their tails are surprising long and, well, rodent-like. Kind of off-putting.
But I say go for it. Just make sure you get them as kits and handle them a lot.

  3. Thanks Kathy and Julie, I will take it all into consideration, and your observation too, Kelly!
