Part 6 - Passion of the Catholic Church - Carrying the Cross

Deliver us, Lord, from this kind of liturgy.

  1. Wow, I don't even know what some of that is. What's with the horse?
I must confess, I was once that person with the guitar. Granted, I was asked to do it, and was a brand new convert, but I don't think I would be asked to do that now, by the same priest. Fortunately, Bob came along, we listened to a lot of good teaching (ie Fr. Corapi) and our music slowly moved in the right direction.
Now, that said, my window and door into the Catholic church was through a charismatic prayer group. I know that all charismatics do not shall we say, comport themselves properly, BUT, as I understand it, it is permitted and, a licit group. Mine, thankfully, was careful to follow Church guidelines and not get carried away. I don't go anymore, but I guess I am a closet charismatic :)(All this came to mind at one point in the slideshow). We did have special masses, that had a few differences, but nothing like the "healing masses" held around the area. We went to one, and that was it. nope. I am thankful that traditional practices are on the rise. I think our Holy Father is shepherding us well. :)

  2. I hate to knock the charismatic healing Masses that take place around here because I believe the people who organize them have their hearts in the right place. But some of what goes on simply borders on abuse. I went to a few of the First Friday Masses and I had to stop because I felt and thought the most uncharitable things. The Holy Hour that consisted of lay people exposing the Blessed Sacrament and then talking during the entire hour was just too much. The focus was on certain people and not the Eucharist. I know they mean well, but I just couldn't be a party to it. The music that you and Bob and Rachael provided at Father Check's Holy Hours was beautiful and while not Gregorian Chant, entirely tasteful and appropriate. We all have our preferences, and we all have our various ways to get, hopefully, to the same place some day.
