One Day Into Lent, How's It Going So Far?

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”
Then he said to all,
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
Luke 9:22-25

Did you blow one of your Lenten resolutions already?  Never fear.  You still have 39 days to get it right.  Good thing  that Our Lord is so generous and forgiving,  so for some of us, whatever effort we make will be enough to console His Sacred Heart.

Don't forget when Our Lord went into the desert to fast and pray, the first creature waiting to greet Him  was the Great Deceiver.    He becomes enraged to see so many souls working for their salvation.  Just when you least expect, he'll trip you up and laugh with glee when you fall flat on your face.   And he loves the sneak attack. I know that all too well.  So if you have some success with your Lenten promises, don't even admit it to yourself, let alone anyone else.  Not only is it a source of pride for me to discuss my successes, it's also an open invitation for you- know- who to launch an insidious attack.

I never see it coming.  But at least now I know that it is.  I want to be like St. Teresa of Jesus, who saw the devil lurking over her as she slept, looked at him and said: "You again?".  And she rolled over and went back to sleep.
