Stat Spiking and Other Blog Games

I didn't even know I could check my stats until about a month ago. Duh!  Anyway, Father Z has asked for help in spreading word about a poll he has on women and chapel veils.  You can read about it here.  He would like responses from a diverse group of Catholics, not just traddies. He also asked for people not to respond to one another or attack one another so that people will contribute freely to the discussion without fear of getting ridiculed.  That's probably not much of a concern now that he has FINALLY blocked  a certain someone who automatically assumes anyone to the left of Attila the Hun is a tree-hugging, baby-killing liberal.

                                                          Now THAT"s a chapel veil!

  1. I voted and went with not having a strong opinion either way. I do hope women wear it, but I also don't want anything that would prevent young people from going to mass. I want church to be a welcoming place, and such a requirement would inhibit some. Even if it's volentary it creates social pressure to conform. I normally would support conforming social pressure, and I do for social norms, but church should be a glorious experience. I'm curious on how others voted.

  2. Don't you have to have an account or something to comment on his blog?

  4. I voted in his poll.

I wish we had to wear them like we used to.

I bought a beautiful lace mantilla a few years ago and wore it to mass a couple of times, but felt so conspicuous, I stopped wearing it.

  5. Hi there. Just stumbled upon your blog. I have a black chapel veil, thanks to my mom-in-law. I've worn it to Eucharistic adoration in chapel, but (this is silly, I know...) I've not been able to pluck up the courage to wear it to Mass.

  6. I voted yes to bring them back-but voluntarily. Where I hail from, I would much rather a modesty code was enforced...but I also know what you're saying, Manny, I guess I would rather see people there, dressed however, than not there. I know it took me a little while to "evolve." :)

  7. Dear Anonymous
    Welcome!
The mantilla I wear to the TLM belongs to my mom. She gave me the veil and her Missal because she doesn't have the TLM at her parish. I have not yet worked up the nerve to wear a veil to the Novus Ordo and I don't think I'd wear a mantilla there even if I wasn't so self-conscious. But I have worn a little black lace doily from a Jewish website called GlamDoily. It's small, elegant, and has a comb built in so it stays put. I have worn knit hats and occasionallly a bandana to the Novus Ordo but like I said, I think a mantilla might be a distraction, unlike at the TLM.
    Thanks for commenting.

  8. I won a beautiful mantilla from the careless catholic. Just waiting for the right time to break it in...hard to get to St. Pauls, but if I get a chance, I'm ready!
